Re: sky+ sub to be scrapped
I have a standard Sky Box. So if I bought a Sky+ box independantly, would any modifications be needed on my dish/lnb if I were to only need 1 room supplied?
Does the box enable recording from a different channel from the one you are viewing?

Re: sky+ sub to be scrapped
You're going to need a new LNB on your dish if it was originally supplied with a standard Sky receiver. The LNB is the bit that receives the signal bounced off the surface of the dish and the standard ones only have one cable feed off them. You need an LNB with a least two feeds off it because the Sky+ box needs two feeds from the dish, that's how it can record one channel whilst watching a second. All Sky+ installations from scratch come with a quad LNB so that gives you a potential of up to four feeds and so up to two Sky+ boxes.
You will also need a new cable laying from the dish to the place where you want the Sky+ receiver. Again, this is because of the increased number of feeds.

Do we have any updates on when the scrapping of the monthly fees will be introduced to existing regular sky customers??

This is great news if its true, I only have one of the basic packages now at £18 a month and was against the £10 Sky+ charge on the basis I had paid full price for my Sky+ box when they were first launched.

Decided to upgrade to sky+ at the end of last week since I figured that if it is going to be free the installation folks would be snowed under with new orders once it was announced so I wanted to get in first. Whilst ordering I did ask the lady on the other end whether the rumours about the subscription charges were true but she had heard nothing about it... up to you guys whether you think she was bluffing or not!

Re: sky+ sub to be scrapped
Just tried to get a free sky+ box for my parents who are on sky normal at the moment and one for my uncle/aunt who are with NTL phone TV and BB. The sales dept weren't interested and knew nothing of the this sky plus rumour. Very suprised they didn't offer a box to the 'new' customer though. My box was free 14 months ago.
She did say she couldn't offer any plus boxes because' it wasn't up to her' yet said if I could find the sky + free box offer vouchers they sent to me last year then she could 'miraculously' send one for free.
They'll never change us. God help those who try.

In the job I do (financial services), we regularly change rates and the first the Call Centre know is on the day of the new rates come into force. It isn't briefed to staff due to risk of it getting out (commercially sensitive info and all that).
The fact that the Sky Call Centre staff dont know doesn't mean anything.

Re: sky+ sub to be scrapped
I rang today as I managed to sign a friend up to Sky - the agent said, that I was entitled to £50 of M and S vouchers and nowt else.
He made it quite clear that the CS only know of the offers the day they are announced to stop insider trading. Which is a bummer - I have waited ages for a friend (I don't have that many) to sign up and then when I do, I get M and S vouchers.~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~
