Sky+ so sick it's telling me to phone Sky up.

Well my hard drive in my multiroom Pace Sky+ box has now totally gone, it is so sick I am now getting a banner message when I turn on to phone Sky up.

I have never had a box tell me to do that before and I can't replace the drive as I can't find a PATA drive that will work for an acceptable price.

I was just wondering if I get an engineer out to replace it will it be a refurbed Sky+ box or have Sky ran out of those yet as I have no interest in getting HD in the bedroom as I only have a 15 inch CRT telly in the bedroom

Knowing my luck I'll get an old Thompson HD box

What size HDD are you after? Is this the Pace3100 box?

I take it you've done the usual manual reformat routine? Just to be sure. What's this new error message? Is it something like 'unplug and wait for 5 minutes etc'?

I think all these old Sky+ boxes are now being replaced by Amstrad HD DRX890's.

The planner rebuild function hasn't worked in a while, it just refused to do it and when I do a full system reset I get the message SKY+ planner rebuild failed - call customer services.

I am also getting strange rubber banding on programs, the picture slows down and then speeds up to catch up with the sound.

You'd probably be better off getting a s/h Sky+ box off Ebay. Sky will supply an HD box, which will mean that you'll have no Anytime programmes unless you took out an HD sub.

tbh I don't use Anytime so a HD box as a replacement isn't an issue as long as I don't have to buy a 2nd HD sub.

Re: Sky+ so sick it's telling me to phone Sky up.

Wife phoned Sky up last night and we got an engineer booked for tomorrow.

Although wife was very unhappy with the Sky rep as they were pushing hard to flog the extended warrenty plan, and they claimed this was done by Sky.

Wife just kept at it saying that we wanted a standard engineer call out and we weren't interested in any extended warrenty.

Finally they took the hint and booked one in but all the way through the call they couldn't lay off the hard sales pitch.

I know we have some great CST's on the forum here but my wife hates phoning Sky for any reason as she says you don't have a repeatable experience, and she seems to have mostly bad experiences compared to the few good ones.

Anyways tea and biscuits on hand tomorrow morning for the engineer.

      Quick update.

Engineer came and pronnounced the Sky+ dead and swapped it for another Sky+ box.

Apparently there are loads still left to get through in our area before they will start swapping for HD boxes.

But happy with the service he even stayed and made sure the movies etc got paired up beofre he left.

For the DIY enthusiast, I suspect that Michael at Digifix has a pile of old Hard Drives looking for a home.
