Sky+ Box stuck on standby

I was recording one channel and playing back another programme I had recorded earlier when the picture suddenly stopped still. The green play light was still going round but I couldn't advance it or change channel. I turned off the box at the plug and now it won't come on.

Any suggestions? I am not at all technical. I don't want to lose my 20+ hours I have recorded or pay for an engineer unless there is no other alternative.

Have you tried switching the box off at the mains and removing the card, leave for a couple of minutes then switch the box back on and wait to be prompted to insert the card,

im an engineer in ireland.u could try doing a software download and this might solve the issue.keep the back up button on the box pressed down and then take the power lead out of the box then put it back in keeping your finger pressed on the back up button all the time whilst doing this.keep back up pressed until a message comes up on the screen saying UPDATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE then just leave it until the screen goes blank then leave it for bout 10 mins then turn your box back on.if this doesnt sort it then you will need a service call so they can swap the box.hope this helps

Do a front panel reset.

This will wipe the hard drive but will bring the box back to life.

Power off the box
Press the right and left buttons on the front of the box
Keep them pressed
Power up the box (While keeping the buttons pressed)
Wait for the center circle lights to light up (release buttons)
Then press the center button (the one between the left and right buttons above)
The center light will go backwards and start reformating the drive

When this is done the box will turn off, give it a few mins and try it again the box should power back up and work as normal.

If not call Sky or if its under insurance your company and book a service call.

Which make of digibox do you have. Could be a troublesome PSU if it's a Thomson Sky+.
