My Sky+ Box Wont Shut Down - Advice Please
I had Sky installed almost two months ago. I have a Thompson Sky+ Box.
Recently I noticed that when the box is on standby it sounds like it is still on and hasn't shut down.
The red standby light is on but it sounds like the Hard drive is still operating and the fan is still running.
I don't know if it has always done this or if it is more recent. I've tried switching it off at the wall but the fan automatically comes on when plugged back in.
I phoned the sky tech help. The woman I spoke to was a bit rubbish. She suggested that it operated similar to a computer and said the hard drive still operated on standby and so needed the fan to keep it cool. I don't think this is right.
I've stated switching the box off at the wall at night and when I'm out at work.
Does this suggest a fault with the box or is this what it does? I don't know as I've never had sky before. Is it worth the hassle of chasing it up with sky or should I just leave it. If I leave it is the box likely to burn itself out?
Any advice is welcome as this is all new territory for me. I've had a lot of hassle with Sky since the install so don't know what to do especially since the tech services wern't any help.
Thank you

Unless your room gets very warm, then the fan won't normally come on. However, when the hard drive has been replaced by something bigger than the original, it has been known for the fan to come on continually. I'm wondering if this is a refurbished box with a large hard drive that has somehow slipped through ?

Any idea how I find out the size of the Hard Drive?
What is the size of the usual size of a Hard drive supposed to be?
Would it do any good if I reset the box? I've got code off one of these forums.

Sorry, that is on an HD box, someone may be able to tell you what you can expect on a standard Plus box.

I have read somewhere that this box can benefit from having extra spacers put underneath it. The fan is on the bottom so it gives it a bit more space to get the heat out. This is especially true when t is sitting on a glass shelf which is likely to retain the heat.
