      Sky+ Software Update?

What about Sky+ (Standard Definition) is there any news on when that will be getting a facelift in its Guide etc. If HD can have it why cant the SD have it? Sky + HD sounds good and I shall eventually get it although the extra 9 subscription is a bit of a cheek especially when I am already paying 56 for my Sky World Package and Broadband.
Strange also that The Sky+_Standard Def Box is more expensive than its HD version. Currently 99 and HD is 49 .

Not really, I see it as them trying to get more people committed into paying out the extra monthly subscription. I bought into it over a year ago and haven't looked back. For the stuff I watch (BSG, 24, Heroes, Lost, etc) it's worth it get a large clean, crisp picture and great audio. The recording and PVR stuff's a bonus.

The guide software has been desparately in need of an upgrade - I've especially noticed the laggy performance on my HD box when compared to the old SD box. With the SD box, listings appeared quickly and most user related actions were responsive. My HD box however, gets so unresponsive that I'm forced into using the service menu to clean things up - seems like a caching issue. I've no idea if this is normal or if SD+ boxes exhibit the same fault.

If yours is a Thompson box then the lag is most likely due to the power supply.

I had to get a Satcure capacitor replacement kit to fix mine and after that was done the box became a lot more responsive.

As for the Sky+ EPG being updated, I assume that the boxes can't take the update as it is, don't foget they were designed several years before the HD boxes and it may be the simple fact that the Sky+ box is just too old to take the new EPG.

No its the new EPG very slow compared to the SD one, I replaced the PSU and although it solved my crashing problems the EPG is s...l....o......w..!

I had the enhanced capacitor kit fitted so I could stick a 1TB drive in and the new EPG got a lot better afterward.

So I have no idea what has made it better, I assume one of the upgrades I have done is responsible as there isn't much of the original box left.
