      Countless Sky + Problems...HELP!!!

We have a standard Sky Amstrad + box which we've had for a couple of years (and out of warranty) and I think it's now starting to give up the ghost.

We have freezing problems, skipping problems, loss of sound, and, over the past few days, when you press fast forward (to skip adverts) it is going back to the start of the programme, or the place where you last pressed fast forward.

We tried resetting the machine (admittingly not recently) but this didn't solve any of the problems we were having at the time.

Is it the hard drive that is broken? Is it worth investing in a new hard drive or is it worth just calling sky out and paying the 60 odd pound for the "privilidge".

If you think hard drive - some assistance on what one (I've searched various websites but am still not sure) is suitable for our Amstrad player would be grateful.

      Thanks

It will be easier just to get a new box as getting the HDD replaced will be more effort then its worth.

If you want to put a new drive in then this site should have all the answers

Copy+, the free Sky & XTV disk copier software

and here is the hard drive suggestions

      Suggested Drives

although your problems are most likely to be hard drive related they could also be a faulty power supply that may have damaged the drive or is just playing up.

The best bet is to get Sky to "fix it" ie get the refurbed box which you know is working and then if you want to swap drives for a bigger one then go ahead.

The problem is that the PATA (IDE) drives that are in the SKY+ boxes are becoming harder and harder to come by as the computer industry is now more or less sold on the newer SATA drives which are in the HD boxes.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
