cancel sky is cheaper than fix?

So I have come back from holiday and my sky+ box no longer records, I can't access the planner, I can't pause TV etc.

After phoning sky doing the usual of resetting the box two options are given. 1. An engineers call 60
      2. Buy a new sky+ box at around 150.

However, if I cancel the lot and register as a new customer it looks like I get the whole lot replaced (including my muliti room box etc) for just 75?

Is this really the case that the best option is to cancel and start over again?

Sometimes you can blag Sky by threatening to cancel, they sometimes play ball and do you a deal.

If you fancy HD, it may be worth trying to get the current hidden deal. 105 fitted.

Note: You would normally have to subscribe to the HD Sub at 10 per month on top of whatever you pay now.

the new customer prices are for people who have not previously been sky customers. The small print available on the main sky.com/products page states:

Only one discounted Sky+ box per customer

I assume new customer could mean I cancel and my partner requests it?

that way I way get around the small print?

Technically yes, but I think Sky may go by post code. Worth a try speaking to cancellations and say you are considering leaving etc etc

Glenn (the other guy who owns this site) got a new Sky+ box and a refurbed Sky box for 65 when his old set broke down, last year. Just by threatening to cancel.

Re: cancel sky is cheaper than fix?

Sky's offer of a call for 65.00 would include a replacement Sky+ box if required, so that is cheape than a cancel and re-installation and a fair price IMHO.
