      Box Messed Up Any Advise

Hi we have the Thompson PVR3 160GB Sky+ Box.

Today it just cut off and the red power light was blinking and a Buzz was coming from the PVR Unit.

Sky are coming out Monday to replace it as it was covered by the Sky Repair Plan.

They said they will replace it with a rebrished unit.

will we get the same modle as we had before the Thompson PVR3 with Anytime.
Or will they give us the really old unit like PVR 1 & 2.

and also could we reject the box we are offered if it was an old unit such as PVR 1 & PVR 2. as we want a box with Anytime and 160GB Harddrive

and can we keep the old unit and try to recover files and place them on the computer.

Not 100% sure but I would have thought they would have to replace it with a similar spec box, not an older spec. I would think that they will want the old box so they can refurbish that . So if you want to transfer the programs from it you had better get busy with this.

I'm afraid you dont have a choice if you want the programs that are on the disk. They are encoded and the sky box decodes them so copying them to a pc drive wont work. The only way is to copy them is via the copy+ software to another hard drive that is then put back into the sky box.

Afraid he is spot on, if you really want to keep anything you have to remove the hard drive and copy it across using this software.

Not sure what you have been recording, but in this day and age I'm sure it will be on again within the next few weeks

If not, you could always try to download it and burn it to DVD so you don't lose it again

That's not good news. Those rebrushed units are simply given a quick dust with a brush. Probably won't last 5 minutes.
