      increase hard drive

When i had my sky+ installed earlier this year the engineer said he would be able to double the hard drive ,just before he left i prompted him about it and he then proceeded to press the buttons on the front of the box he said it was done ,it only took him about 20-30 seconds .A month after i had it installed the picture started flickering so i switched it of at the wall and has since worked ok but i totted up my hard drive when it was full and it only stored 40 hours, have i lost the extra space when i switched it off from the wall? I cannot find anything about doubling the size ot the hard drive on the internet .

errr, the engineer was lying. Plain and simple.

I assume you have the box with a 160GB hd so 80 gig (40hrs) for personal use and the same again for Sky Anytime.

See the link in my sig if you want to put a bigger hard drive in the box.

      Re: increase hard drive

      - to boost his ego?
      - maybe someone else had told him it was possible an so he did it?

does it really matter. If it was possible (especially with a few button clicks) then why can't you find it anywhere on the net.

People in the past have claimed that you can 're-claim' the sky anytime portion of your hard drive (especially on ebay), but no 'customer' has every posted anywhere that it has been successful..... because it never has been.

It would be great if it was possible, but to be totally honest, you're far better off putting a bigger hard drive in the box as they're so cheap.

as for your box, yes it had 80gb of the HDD reserved for sky anytime:

With its 80GB hard drive (advertised at 160GB with 80GB useable space) this Pace TDS470N allows you to utilise the Sky Plus functionality and record a minimum of 40 hours of quality digital TV, as well as enjoy crisp Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Also includes facilities to pause/rewind live TV.

a quick search on google has found that a bugged release of sky software had unlocked the reserved space, but sky quickly released an update that re-locked the reserved space.
