SCART is the best for Sky+. Only Sky+ HD boxes have HDMI.

Have you also considered checking how your TV is setup?

My understanding is that a lot of TVs are unpacked and used "out of the box" with the factory settings, which tend to have the colour and brightness up too high (for my taste anyway!)

Here's a link to a very helpful and quick guide:
Lyris Lite :: Quick and Dirty TV Setup

I've followed this advice and got a much better picture (in my opinion!) from my Sony Bravia 40" LCD than when it came out of the box.

As for cables, I think SCART is pretty much the only option for Sky standard and Sky+ boxes. You might want to try turning on RGB output on the Sky box and connecting the SCART cable to the TV input that can handle RGB and see whether that gives you any picture improvement. I'm not sure, but I think you may also need to have a SCART cable that is wired to carry RGB for this exercise!

The Gadget show on Ch5 tested a cheap 15 HDMI cable & a 130 one. They could see no difference whatsoever in picture quality.

      Re: what cables to use?

Hi, I'm new here so go easy on me if this isn't strictly correct

I think without the HDMI port then the best connection from the SKY+ box would be by S-VHS connection. This would only pass video but the quality should be better than a Scart connection.

Audio should be passed by Toslink (Digital Fibre Optic) cable.

Some new TVs will support these connections direct now and give very good quality.

I have just got my Onkyo 605 receiver which a lot of people may not want to have, but if you have a TV that is built for HD then the sound is a major part of that IMO. I haven't connected it up to my SKY+ yet, but the difference in viewing/listening to Blurays is astonishing.

On this theme, is ALL audio from Sky+ sent in stereo, or do some of the channels have DD audio sent?

I intend to upgrade to SKY HD at the start of the new footy season to get the real benefits. However, it will definitely be as a new customer and not an existing one.

Hope this is of some help, or someone can let me know if its wrong.

Not according to the experts. RGB via Scart is marginally better - although some TV sets handle it better than others.
