Question Sky + Box With No Subscription?

To cut a long story short i used to live with my parents and i had SKY + Multi-room. I now have my own flat which has a communal dish and a sky TV socket on the wall behind The Tv.

Now of course i still have a second box at my parents house gathering dust, is it possible to plug the Sky + box into my flat`s Sky Socket.. i realize SKY+ has two inputs, and my Sky setup is for normal Sky receivers with one..

All i want to do is watch some of the extra non subscription channels that are shown on SKY, not that bothered about recording...

I have a sky card which used to have my subscriptions on? i guess these will be cancelled now.. and thats fine.. as long as i can watch the Free Channels..

Can i do this, without connected it to a phone line?

      Thanks For any Advice
      Paul

Yes, the Phone Line condition is normally coupled with a Multiroom contract and for when the box is under 12 months old.

Provided you are no longer subject to Multiroom you should be fine. Obviously you won't get the benefits that Sky+ brings, but the free channels I would imagine you should be fine.

Yes, My parents still have sky+ with the subscription but the multi-room was cancelled when i moved out... i was going to buy a normal sky receiver off ebay or something for about 20... but if my old sky+ box will do the same job, then bingo...

I have a subscription to Setanta sports on freeview.. would i be able to transfer this to my sky card? or would that mean i would have to subscribe in some way to SKY? as well?

You should be fine using your Sky+ box as it is, as for the Setanta, absolutely no idea.

Either ring Sky or wait for a more knowledgeable answer.

Your setanta subscription should be linked to the card in your sky+ box so it should still work no mater what your subscription is. If not there should be a way around it- maybe setanta supply a card for freview users, which you could put in the box

Re: Sky + Box With No Subscription?

You are best to go for setanta on sky - you do not need a sky subscription as long as you have the viewing card for the sky box even though the subscription has expired - Setanta need this to control the satellite service delivery.

You get more channels on Setanta via Sky compared to freeview.

Give setanta a ring - make sure your sky box is working first of course in your new set up.

Re: Sky + Box With No Subscription?

hey Guys, The Setanta Sub i have right now is on my Freeview Box. I understand from reading the sentanta website that you can transfer a subscription from freeview to SKY Box .. i just didnt know if my Sky card would accept a new subscription service if i wasnt subscribing to any sky channels?

I dont suppose a Freeview card can be used in the SKY box can it? they look very similar? although not compared them side by side yet.. Hav`nt Got around to picking the box up yet...

Yes Exactly I would much rather have sentanta on Sky for all the extra Setanta channels such as Setanta Golf..

Thanks I`ll Keep you posted as to how it pans out..

      Paul.
