If i buy a sky+ box...(quickie)
heya all, well we cant get sky at the moment due to no phoneline, so i have normal freeview box, if i went out and bought a sky+ box, what would happen? would i have normal freeview channels, and well all free chanels and still be able to pause, record them etc, or would i just recieve no signals at all and be without TV?

Welcome Betty,
If I have correctly understood your question,
you would be wasting your money.
Sky+ only works if you have a Sky subscription.
Not only does Sky need a phone line, the dish etc. has to
be set up by a Sky installer.
It is not like a Freeview box.Last edited by murdock; 08-01-08 at 11:41 AM. Reason: revised

Ok thanks for that, most proabaly in the wrong section now but if i got the 'freesat' does that 1 require a phoneline and 2 work with a sky+ box, just my mate give me his old one such as shame not to be able to use it you see. also is it worth the £150?

Re: If i buy a sky+ box...(quickie)
No it is definitely not worth it, even if you could use it.
Freeview receives the signal through the terrestrial aerial.
It is very easy to set up providing you have a good aerial.
There are boxes available, similar to Sky+, that will work with
Freeview. Check back later.
Hopefully, someone will recommend one.
I use Sky + but pay a heavy monthly charge.Last edited by murdock; 08-01-08 at 11:49 AM. Reason: spelling

No. I have a very dodgy reputation.
By the way, I have corrected my post to read Freeview.
It is easy to get the two systems mixed up.

Re: If i buy a sky+ box...(quickie)
If it was connected to a dish you would get some channels but not even as many as freeview. BBC, radio and music channels. It doesnt need to be connected to the phone line - only does for box office or interactive use (mine never is). and you could get the sky+ to work off a single signal as its only a hard drive recorder. As long as you can get the disk to pick up the signal u can get it, u dont even have to be in the UK as some countrys like france can pick up the signal (not legal though)
