      Upgrading from SKY+ to HD

I currently have Sky + in one room. No other TV's in house so no need for multiroom.
      I want Sky HD.

I called Sky and they want 269 for an HD receiver.

I was thinkin about buying an HD box off of ebay (4th gen box for about 160). My question are.....

      1. Can I just plug the new Sky HD box into the existing cables, get a new viewing card and........bingo I have Sky HD.

      2. If there is more to point 1. above, would I be best just ordering from Sky direct and getting them to to the work.

      Cheers

      1. Get box off ebay.
      2. Plug in to existing cables from dish.
      3. Put card into HD box from Sky+ box.
      4. Ring sky to get card paired with box.

      5. Enjoy HD!

Is it really that simple? I thought that the LNB had to be upgrade or something...

Not if you already have Sky+

As you have Sky+, you should already have a dual LNB (at least), giving the Sky+ box two feeds.

Just connect those two feeds to the Sky HD box instead.

You only *have* to subscribe to Sky HD if you want the Sky HD channels (Sky One HD etc. etc.).

[although if you buy a Sky HD box from Sky themselves & do not want to subscribe to Sky HD, they charge an extra 100 for the box IIRC. Buying via e.g. eBay, there is no requirement to subscribe to Sky HD.]

Re: Upgrading from SKY+ to HD

      - Still get BBC HD, & will get C4 HD & ITV HD when they launch.

      - Upscales the SD channels over HDMI - much better than SCART from a normal Digibox.

      - Bigger HDD than a Sky+ box.

I wouldn't pay Sky 299 for a Sky HD box, but the 170ish I paid via eBay was an absolute bargain (especially when you think it's not that much more money than an unsubsidised Sky+ box).
