Pace Sky+ box - power up problem
Hi, I have a Pace Sky+ box that has just died – it refuses to power up, either by pressing the on/off button or via the remote control - the power button stays red. The box can see the remote OK as when I press one of the buttons the remote LED lights up. I’ve tried removing the mains from the box and then reconnecting 30 minutes later, but still no joy.
I assume there is a problem with the box – does anyone have any idea what the problem may be and if it is easily repairable?
Cheers
Peter

Re: Pace Sky+ box - power up problem
Sounds like the start up capacitors are shot.
You could always use the old hair dryer trick.
Not really recommended but.....
OK , disconnect from mains open box and wave a hair dryer over the power supply board for a few minutes. stand clear and switch mains back on and press start/standby button. If that works then carefully put the lid back on and don`t turn box off unless you can`t help it.
The above is for reference only and is NOT recommended and should not be attempted by anyone of sound mind unless they hold a good life insurance policy.

Re: Pace Sky+ box - power up problem
Hi,
Thanks for your reply - do you have any idea of the value of the caps and are they relatively straightforward to change? I really don't want to lose the recordings stored on the hard disc (or have to buy a new Sky+ box!)
Cheers

Re: Pace Sky+ box - power up problem
Googling around it would also seem that these boxes do sometimes have problems with the HD which will stop it from comming out of standby also.
You could try taking the drive out , just to see if it starts then.
Give the hairdryer trick ago then you`ll know if it`s the power side or not.
One thing you can do is a hard reset this sometimes will get the box working again but you will lose anything on the HD.
