Sky+ box died again!

Hi Guys

I have had Sky+ for over three years (although three different boxes) started off with a thompson which dies after 13 months (£65 call out). Got a second Thompson which died after 7 months and now my third box (an amstrad) has just died.

I still have access to all channels but all recorded programs have been cleared and I cannot use the record/pause/reminder functions.

After speaking to Sky I can pay £65 call out and get a refurbished box (only 3 months guarantee) or £130 to get a new box (although they will not advise the make/model) and I have to have the box connected to a phone line for 12 months.

Is there any way to do this cheaper/better and if so which would be the best box to go for.

Pace box is my advice, I have known of people who have booked appointments and specified the make, or advise the engineer not to bother. I'm told this has worked
