Sky+ cabling problem
Hi, I'm desperately trying to resolve a sky+ cabling problem but have hit a deadend - hoping someone has some suggestions.
I'm moving my sky+ box from one room to another. I've run FT125 cables to the new room and connected the cables from the dish to the new cables going to the room. When I fire up the sky+ box, "no signal" is show (on screen and under the sky management "signal test" menu). The cable runs are quite long - I'd say approaching 40 meters dish to box, so I put a signal amplifier on each cable. This helped, but a very strange thing is happening:
1. I can only get 1 signal, the second signal does not show at all
2. I only get that 1 signal if I have a separate cable plugged into the TV aeriel (I have 4 FT125 cables running into that room so if I connect up a third cable to act as aeriel-in on the TV, the 1 signal suddenly appears on the sky+ box!). If I disconnect the TV aeriel cable, the signal disappears - it's constant.
3. The 1 sky+ signal only shows if I have both sky+ cables connected with the amplifiers, but it makes absolutely no difference if I have the second signal cable connected to the sky+ box or not.
Just seems really strange - any suggestions as to how to diagnose the problem - I'm lost...

Re: Sky+ cabling problem
The LNB is power fed from the Sky+ box, do your amplifiers (what are you using btw)have a DC pass through path? Maybe plugging in the terrestrial aerial completes the circuit in some way? No other ideas exept check your cabing for shorts/opens, stray bits of braid getting in the wrong place could cause problems.
Maybe this article would help Will an amplifier help?Last edited by penrhyn; 04-10-07 at 02:47 PM.

Re: Sky+ cabling problem
Certainly sounds like a connection problem. Make sure all your plugs are fitted correctly. See http://www.satcure.com/tech/fconn.htm
