Could you not just say you are going to cancel at the end of the 12 months unless they can offer the same deal as they have done for others?

      Re: Purchasing Sky Plus

I have tried every trick in the book and never achieved any discount. However I am about to buy Sky HD as it is only 199 for me on their Thank You page.

As for cancelling or threatening, I came against exactly the same. "But you can't - You have Sky Broadband and have 11 months remaining"

Unfortunately Sky are in a great position at the moment as everyone wants it. They used to have loads of cancellation deals, but have since got quite selective in who to offer them to. I think you would have more joy if you were paying the top subscription per month against someone who is on the 26.00 a month contract.

It may be worth saying that VM have offered you such a great deal, that you are prepared to buy yourself out of contract and how much would it be?

Be warned though, they called my bluff and I actually did cancel, but that was for other reasons.

Thanks for the reply mate, yes I think I'm going to have to carry on using my DVD recorder until it runs out - 28th November 2007.

      Re: Purchasing Sky Plus

I called the other day to enquire about upgrading to Sky + and no matter what I said the answer I got was "no we cant give any further discounts". A tad annoyed but meh Ive got better things to worry about. Ended up going on ebay and got a 2nd hand one, fingers crossed its okay
Then all I need to do is hang off the end of a ladder and install then LNB, not an easy feat for someone scared of heights.

May have to go down this route myself...

      can you install it yourself?

paid 60 quid on ebay, very easy to install. You may need to upgrade you LNB which is also easy. Then ring up and match the card to the box and ask them to enable sky+.

Not any advice, other than the above, but remember getting a box is not the end of it, you still need a dual LNB. I you get a box from eBay you still have to get a twin/quad LNB, another wire back to the box and someone to fit it.
