SKY + (If I buy a new box will it be plug and play)
Hi,
I'm having all sorts of problems with my SKY + box so I'm thinking of buying a replacement from eBay. If I do buy one can you advise whether it will just plug in and work or is it not as simple as that?
Thanks.

To be honest i think most people here will say the same thing - you have to have your existing viewing card "married" to the new sky box you are going to buy from eBay.
Should just be a case of calling Sky customer services and they will do it for you (unless the sky box is stolen of course then you will not be able to have it married to your card and you will then have a relatively useless box) :-)
All in all should be a relatively easy experience - if you are having problems with your Sky box just now it may just need a new hard drive (stuttering playback etc).
Hope this helps answer your question.

Re: SKY + (If I buy a new box will it be plug and play)
Can you elaborate on your problems, as it may just need a new hard drive in which case you could upgrade your storage capacity instead of buying a whole new box (see my sig on how to upgrade a sky+).
If you do buy a new box, then you only need to call sky to marry the card with the box if you subscribe to any premium channels.

Re: SKY + (If I buy a new box will it be plug and play)
Hi,
Basically on certain channels I have distorted picture and sound during playback mainly on Channel 4, some movie channels and UK Gold and the problem seems to be getting worse. I've been onto SKY lots of times and the only solution they offer is to send an engineer out at a cost of £65.
I have a virtually empty planner and we've tried planner rebuilds & system resets all to no avail.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: SKY + (If I buy a new box will it be plug and play)
possible dish re-allignment?
In which case a new box wouldn't really sort it!
do you have a friend with Sky+, whose box you could borrow to see if the problem remains?
or take your box around to someone else's house to test it with their dish?Last edited by jayhab; 02-09-07 at 07:14 PM. Reason: added to reply

Yep i'd agree sounds more like dish/lnb problem than box. Take jayhab's advice in the first instance.

I'd still take jayhab's advice in the first instance.
