I know it is possible to copy a Sky+ recorded programme using the 'copy' feature but this must be done in real time - i.e a two hour movie will take two hours to record onto a DVD recorder.

Is it possible to copy the recorded programme file from Sky+ directly to a PC or MP4 player in a native file format (MP4?) which should then only take a minute or two to copy over. If so, would it playback on on something like Windows Media Player?

Plainly and simply - NO.

Someone has claimed to be able to do it, but you need to buy some very specific and expensive equipment.

Sky+ recordings on the internal disk are straight dumps of the broadcast data streams and, as such, are still encrypted. The Sky+ STB uses it's smartcard to decrypt the data while it is doing the copy. Basically NO to your question!

To "copy" do I just need to connect a VCR then press copy on a saved programme?
