      Fernwood and Edz999, please can you post your old failing Sky+ system details, preferably to the Digital Spy thread mentioned above. The reasons are that the collected data 1) gives each of us the consumer leverage with BSkyB to get the problem resolved foc, 2) may be used as evidence if it becomes necessary to take action against Sky in the future. I don't think this is too much to ask in return for the good advice you have been given and the happy outcome you will hopefully experience.

      Yes, it IS that James Murdoch, the big boss of BSkyB. I doubt he personally receives the emails, but they get handled by his corporate office and passed on to the most senior customer management team at BSkyB. Resultant service calls are marked as "senior executive" calls.

      There have been reports on the Digital Spy thread that James Murdoch did get personally involved when all of these emails started arriving, to the extent that he visited someone's house to see the problem for himself. As a result, he instructed that foc new replacements were to be issued to fix the problem.

      Anyway, email received from "All Customer Care Escalation", advising of engineer visit to look at problem.

      Nice man turns up this morning (bang on time), does a test of the signal strengths from feeds, has a quick watch of a saved faulty recording, pops out to his van and returns with a new box....

      ...which then won't boot properly so he has to go and get another one

      ...which does work properly so I now have a new (bigger) box with Anytime and (hopefully) proper recording on Eurosport and five (the most affected channels for me).

      Result !!

      I have this problem too but on a Pace box. Going to send an email tonight and will see if they'll replace that one too. Will post an update.

      It also decided to switch itself off last night and stop recording the programmes it was in the middle of.

      Many thanks for your good advice. Contacted Sky using ur template on Sunday and they are coming around on Saturday to replace the box, free of charge with no questions asked. I can recommend to anyone having the same problem to do the same.

      Hi, as requested my system details for my faulty sky+box

      Model Armstrad
      Model Number A20B015
      Version Number 4F2002

      The engineer appeared yesterday and was impressed that i had contacted James Murdoch, he repalced the box with a brand new one stating that because of the email he wouldnt give me a refurbished one. It is now working well and i have the bonus of sky anytime. I dont know if that works as nothing as downloaded onto it yet, but i think that is pretty standard as i believe that it can take a few days to do that.

      Thanks Postman Pat, but the main piece of info needed is the Serial Number (replace the last two digits with 'xx'). Do you still have that?

      You are right, it can take a few days to start building up Anytime content.

      In case you are interested, here's the list of serial numbers reported to date. This make it difficult for BSkyB to argue that the problem is only effecting the individual's Sky+ box, hence why we are trying to keep recording further instances of failing units:
