warning to all sky + box owners
Last night sky issued a software update which was rolled out about 5 in the morning..
There have been several reports (mine included) (according to the person I spoke to tonight) about this update incorrectly installing and sending the box into permanent standyby mode..
After several hours of messing with the system it's still like this so I've got an engineer out on Thursday- I've only had sky + in two months and had three problems so far. :-(

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
Fingers crossed.
No problem with my Thomson Sky+ HD box.
Its been over two months now and nothings gone wrong.
Someone up there loves me. Or maybe it's my Skyuser name.
I notice one poster says he has had NINE replacement Sky+ boxes.
I think his name is SkySucks.
Nothing wrong with my Broadband either.

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
Well got up this morning and my planner was empty !!!
All the programs I had recorded for my kids had all been removed.
Sky's comments.... "Well, these things can happen !"
Thanks ! Im sure my 4 year old son will feel much better knowing that !

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
I've had nine replacement boxes in 17 months.
Our sky subscription was cancelled at the begining of March.
Enough is enough.

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
This happened to me on Tuesday morning, contacted SKY who told me to do a poweroff then hold the "backup" button while powering on. This did not solve the problem, as I got my box from an independant company they came this morning and replaced my box. 1 question though my "old box" which was only 2 months old was a Pace M/N 4.044 the replacement box is a Pace 4.008. Is there any big diffs between the boxes? I have noticed it has no USB sockets

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
UPDATE - I've fixed this myself this morning.. do this and although you'll lose all your planner etc you won't need to call the engineer!
instead of holding that backup button.. instead.. when you switch on , hold the left and right directional buttons on the front of the box.
After about 30 secs... the main greeen circle lights will come on and start to flash slowly....
at this point hit the select button on the front of the box.. the circle will run backwards for a few mins and then it's turn off again.
Leave it for another two mins and it's be fine!

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
I had Sky + installed on the 7th June and the box went into permanent standby on Sat 28th shortly after I had booked the Ricky Hatton fight - a week before I had contacted Sky about my epg version as I had no Sky Anytime showing on my box and was asked to do a force upgrade which worked fine and I now had Sky Anytime. I can't tell if my box (which was a Amstrad DRX280) had a faulty hardrive or became faulty due to the epg update or by having my card upgraded to include Setanta Sports Ricky Hatton fight offer.
Anyhow while I had my Amstrad box I thought that make was fine but did notice a really slow response on the remote and sometimes when flicking through channels on the programme banner it would then zoom through all the channels going from 106 for example right through to the radio channels and sometimes the channel would lock and not let me change the channel.
My box could have been faulty from the start which annoyed me as I paid the full £160 for a brand new box and for it to go faulty in that short time peeved me off, but today I got new Pace box and the remote response is just like it used to be when I had Sky Digital - fast!
Also the official Sky person was a lot nicer than the miserable contracter who fitted my Sky+.

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
Cheers.....
Been looking all over for that info.
My father had the same problem with his box about 12 months ago and we found a website detailing the fix, but have since lost it (typical).
So now that my box is playing up I've been searching high and low for the info. Again ... Thanks.

Re: warning to all sky + box owners
do you mean the two horizontal buttons on the 5 button array at the right of the box next to the ready light?
