      Possible a simple answer

      Hi Folks

First thing sorry if this has been asked to death but I've had a quick look through but can't seem to find the answer (sorry mods) first child is due soon and wife is confined to bed rest so this will help her keep her sanity (well just living with me lol)

Wecurrently have sky+ downstairs but ive just picked up a 2nd hand HD box which I'm planning on putting my current viewing card in (basic package) will this work straight away or will it have to be paired???

So now I have a spare sky+ box which I would like to put in the bedroom to be able to watch what has previously be saved on the box. I've got all the cables in the room ready and the dish is a quad lmb, can I just buy a 2nd card off e bay and use it in this machine to get the free channels (I understand I won't be able to use the sky+ record service) but still be able to watch what's been recored???

      Many many thanks

It will have to be paired to the box to give it it's entitlements etc

Pretty sure it may not work without the original card in. I maybe wrong though.

      You could always get Multiroom?

10 per month (ish) and then you can get the same channels on each box and a new card. And then still be able to watch what was recorded on the first box.

      Hope that makes sense.

Viewing any recordings from subscription channels will definitely not work without the card use to record them (these recordings are encrypted on the disk and the encryption is unique to the card used at record time). Unencrypted recordings will work with any card that is entitled to use the sky+ features (an eBay one will not be, afaik you either need to have a sky subscription or pay 10 to enable sky+)
