      Scorched viewing card

      Hi,
I am an ex sky subscriber, but I still use the box, dish and card to get all the free channels. I was switching to a new box today when I noticed the scorch marks. If I was to order a replacement from sky, would it be free considering I no longer subscribe? I know they block the old card, and I don't really care as I don't watch it that much - I would just like it sorted! Also, if you can get it replaced free, where do I go to do it?
      Thanks in advance!

You would not get a card free, you would have to pay about 25 for a Freesat card. If you were a Sky subscriber the card would be replaced foc, provided you sent the old one back.

Scorched cards seem to be quite common with some boxes.

I wrote about this "burnt card" problem back in September 2011:-

You could resubscribe to Sky and tell them you have lost the card, they will then send a free card replacement but you will need to pay for 1 month subscription which would be 21.50 and you wouldn't get the subscription channels until the new card arrived.

If the card works okay then why bother.

The cards are probably going to be replaced this year anyway - isn't it almost five years since the last changeover?
As an ex-subscriber all the card gives you is regional BBC and ITV.
