How are you supposed to deal with scam phone calls when the number is WITHHELD.
I want to report the last two calls I recieved on my phone, but trying to get through to a sky operator is a waste of time with the automatic system sending you round and round in circles.
I'm tempted to try the old 99999999999 ploy and see if that works!

I also would love to know how they got my number and name and know - not guess - who I get my fuel from.
I have rung my supplier and they assure me that they don't give out contact numbers and it would require some research to find it as it is ex-directory.

I really do not know why people are not buying these phones in their millions. Ignoring scam calls is NOT an option. I still have to get upoff my chair to see who is calling. As already said a lot of these numbers are withheld or anonymous and so cannot be reported. It SHOULD be down to the line suppliers to stop these scam calls but like a lot of things that ISPs and line providers should be doing they cannot be bothered. The Telephone Preference Service is a complete and utter waste of space as is OFCOM.

I have had one of these phones for about six months. Everytime I go onto the various forums and see a post about scam callers I advocate the purchase and use of these phones. Since i have had my phone it has stopped 100% of the scammers. If one should get through by talking to the robot that number can be blocked with a push of a button.

There are a couple of downsides such as some people do not like to talk to the robot. Tough luck in that case don't ring me it's that simple.

Ignoring the call is not an option and that is not good advice. Buy the dang phone it's cheap enough.

Expensive especially for the full package and another box to take up space and gather dust. Everything is in the phone and a 3 phone system cost me 69. I have the BT 8600 but there is a new model out, BT 6590. That is 38 for a single phone. Mine does everything the Truecall does and a bit more.

Truecall connects to a database that other users also connect to and they share unwanted numbers and the BT ones do not work as effective.

      Re: Nuisance and Unwanted Calls

The latest scam is the 'you are being investigated by the Inland Revenue, press 1 to speak to an advisor' Several people locally, according to the local rag, have been caught out and swindled out of thousands of pounds. It is hard to see how anyone can be so gullible, but obviously they are. The third time I got the call I pressed 1 and just said ****** off. I have not had a call since then.

      Re: Nuisance and Unwanted Calls

I always ask for a number so I can ring back.
The really silly thing is that the genuine IR withhold their number when they call so you cannot check it.

      Re: Nuisance and Unwanted Calls

      Who still uses their landline?

Mine is disconnected unless I'm making an outbound call, very rarely!

On my mobile I blacklist persistent unknown numbers so they don't annoy me.

      Sorry.

Not particularly helpful for this thread.

I would get a call-minder type device, or one of the BT or Panasonic phones that allow call screening/blocking if I, or, anyone I know used it a lot.

      Re: Nuisance and Unwanted Calls

Most calls from hospitals, doctors or similar are number withheld. They do not leave a message because of patient confidentially.
