This is my answer to Sky, and I get to use all those unused minutes on our mobiles too. I will be going PAYG with Sky.

I'm confused?? What does it do? Does it just route calls from your landline handset
to your mobile? If so why would you not just use your mobile to make the calls?
Or does it still connect to your landline?

      Correct...

It allows your landline to work as normal, so incoming calls work the same. When you make a call this unit will either send it via the landline or via Bluetooth and your mobile. All you need to do is to prefix the dialled number with a code, a bit like dialing 9 for an outside line. This unit supports up to three mobiles too. It also allows you to pick up incoming mobile calls on your landline handset.

BTW, we have a bunch of dect phones scattered around the house, its usually quicker to find one of the dects as they are in their cradles than to find the mobiles. Also I have an unlimited minutes package and I think I should take advantage of it.

The discount should also increase by 1 to cover the hike in line rental.
very very curious how people have managed to get line rental for 9.99. One surely cannot get it by threatening to leave as no competitor has such cheap line rental.

My bill is increasing by 5.

4 for removing inclusive weekend calls that sky are contracted to provide me for 18 months (they now breaching contract)
1 for the line rental price hike to 17.40

Both starting for me in jan 2015.

Sky told me I can downgrade to pay as you talk to remove the 4.

Re: Skytalk Increases 1st December 2015

Not sure whether the line rental increase will be strictly applied from 1st of December but the change in calls packages is being deferred by up to a month so as to align itself will with customer's payment dates.

Edit: For someone who intends to leave Sky matching a competitors charges is insufficient, retentions need to be able to undercut them.

If you check Upcoming subscription costs does it show 28th December to 27th January as 46.40?
If not what changes are there in the breakdown?

Re: Skytalk Increases 1st December 2015

From what I read somewhere, OR/BT are looking to introduce data only lines, that should shake up the market when it happens.

This may have something to do with the rollout of G.Fast over the next few years.

      No.
They'll automatically put you on the current equivalent package which gives you the same inclusive calls.

Which is 'Evenings & Weekends Extra' (Inclusive calls to UK landlines & mobiles + 0845 & 0870 evenings & weekends) at 4 per month.

Unless you change your tariff before then.

ok but thats one hell of an undercut, I have never heard of any provider cutting line rental that low before, usually they cut tv or broadband but not line rental.

So what do I say to get that 10 deal?

If I say I want to leave due to line rental increase surely they only need to say "but we still the cheapest" which is true.
