Nah! I'm staying with Sky, but will downgrade to Sky Talk Pay As You Talk for 0 per month - and make all calls on the mobile using inclusive minutes on that tariff.

Re: Skytalk Increases 1st December 2015

I've just been doing a little research, if I switched to Plusnet on thier 76Mb package with phone etc etc I could get anytime calls and the whole thing would cost me about 43pcm. On Sky I am currently paying $47pcm and it's going to go up soon. I really do not want to leave Sky but the last straw is getting damn close.

Re: Skytalk Increases 1st December 2015

I'm on sky talk freetime now (been on that for a good decade or so), but do currently have half price line rental till next July and so its only going up by 50p in my sky.
So assume they will try to push me onto the 4 Sky Talk Evenings & Weekends Extra package.
But as I do not use my home phone at all to make calls, I will be fine on the sky pay as you talk and pay zero, as I do now.
This line rental for me is just a tax on broadband, but at only 8.70 (from Dec) I'm not really complaining as our broadband is free

Be careful about PlusNet - it used to have a great reputation but lately my perception is that there seem to have been a lot of complaints about service delivery, so (as always) do the research to make your own conclusions!

I'm also looking at VoIP products, that could work out to be the best option. Incoming calls will still come in as normal but all outgoing to be routed over IP. I need to to a long term cost analysis on that, say 24 months and see if the extra hardware I'll need will pay for itself. What I'd really like to do is route all the landline outgoing via my mobile, as I pay for mega minutes I never use, or remove the DECT phone from SWMBO's study!

      So i risked it.

      Result.
Free broadband unlimited for 12 months.
35% off the 26.50 variety element of my legacy varietyHD package for 8 months.
Continuation of existing 4 discount on the HD element for 4 (3 more) years.
Locked into phone, broadband & tv for 12 months.

Alternative tv offer was free sky+ subscription for 12 months, negating the need to buy a freesat pvr but decided to keep all my channels.

Re: Skytalk Increases 1st December 2015

I get 1000 minutes and unlimited text from Virgin Mobile for 8 a month
on a sim only contract. So after Sky's major hike in TV package prices
earlier in the year with the promise of no further price increases until 2016,
why the heck would want to spend another 5 a month on there phone
service! We will be having a conversation tomorrow and if they cant come
up with something then they can stick it where the sun dosen't shine!

So the conversation has been had! and after talking to the first girl who
said she could do nothing about the price increase and forced phone
package 'Upgrade' which I don't want! She seemed quite happy for me
to walk! But then right at the last minute just as I was about to put the
phone down she says "Or I could put you through to retension dept?"
So second conversation was more helpful! They said they cannot prevent
automatic upgrade, but can give me line rental for 10 a month for ten
months and in the case of my Mums account the same deal with free
broadband unlimited for 12 months, she was on lite! So looks like Sky
won us over for another 12 months! Will take another look at it next year!

They won't push you you will be on that package unless you ring them to tell them you do not want it. And when you ring them they try to push all sorts of other garbage at you.

      Found it...

This is my answer to Sky, and I get to use all those unused minutes on our mobiles too. I will be going PAYG with Sky.
