    Noise on my line

      Noise on my line

      Just thought I would share this as I have never come across it before. We had an intermittent cracking noise on the phone line although it was there most of the time, I never worried about as we hardly use the home phone and it didn't seem to affect the broadband.

      I went to sky.com yesterday due to the issues with emails to see if there was any kind of update and when I was on the site I got a pop up saying we have detected you have an issue on your line or something to this effect and to press a button for help in fixing this.

      The steps eventually said they were going to test the router which would cause the Internet to cut off, I know this is a filter test that checks the set up in the home is correct. It did the test and the router reset and the result of the test came back saying it seems your issue has been resolved.

      I then went to the same page on sky.com and it didn't advise any issue had been detected so I checked the phone and there was no noise. I have checked the phone numerous times since and still no noise so I have no idea what the filter test did other that reset the router but it seems to have fixed it.

      Got to say I have seen in the past routers causing noise on the line but I have never seen a reset fixing it.

      Have you ever logged a line fault of any kind?

      The website often seems to get stuck with this kind of thing & for me has done so with broadband & offers.

      In the broadband section i see something like:
      Testing on your broadband began on X/6/13 & will be completed within 10 days.
      So no results.

      In the offers section i see something like:
      We are unable to offer you any box upgrades at this time.
      This may be because you recently upgraded to bla bla bla (i haven't) or have an engineer booked to visit you (i haven't).
      'Mysky' has shown that message ^ for as long as i can remember.

      Hi Gymno

      I have never logged any kind of fault. I clicked on the help and support tab and then by accident clicked the set up option and that is when I got the pop up. I actually did it a couple of times and still got the same pop up.

      So far thankfully yes and when I go to sky.com it is still no longer saying there is a fault detected.
