new Sky line rental - Scam calls

Just changed my line to sky rental... due to getting fibre soon...the number has not changed.

Instantly started to get Scam calls..!

Not sure if BT had something on the line to stop them but we have never received one before in 30 years.

Any ideas as to what may be happening and what we can do about it?

      Thanks Al

Most BT customers are automatically registered with TPS "Telephone Preference Service" which is supposed to stop or limit cold calling. It only has limited effect though, if the calls come from abroad I don't think threes alot they can do about it.
You can check if your are registered at TPS just go through the registration process and it will tell you if your number is already registered.

Re: new Sky line rental - Scam calls

The TPS only stops sales calls but the callers get round this by claiming they are not selling anything, just doing market research. They fail to say that they will pass your details on to someone who will try and sell you something, which is how they make a profit.

As it is the telephone number that is registered with TPS it should not matter what provider you use. I am pretty sure someone connected with Sky, not Sky as a company, sells your details on to a list. It is very suspicious that as soon as someone joins Sky they start getting excessive calls. I had a post on the Official forum deleted for suggesting this, as it was an 'unsubstantiated allegation' but the possibility is still there.

Thanks for the replies. We have been tps registered for many years and check each year tomatoes urge we still are. Seems a little coincidental that we start getting these calls as soon as we switch liners rental provider.

      Thanks again

Are you sure that you unticked the box on the application that allows them to pass on your details to their own and other marketeers?
