      18185

At present my phone line is with BT. I get free evening and weekend calls if I contract with them for a year. They are also charging for caller display from January but say if I contract with them for a year I can still have it for free. However when speaking to an adviser, I have been told that if I contract for a year again now I cannot have the caller display free in January. Suggested that I go back to the weekend plan but was told that by doing that would start a new 1 year contract so would still be unable to contract in January for 1 year to receive free caller display. The other option was to pay 3.50 per month for the evening and weekend call plan and get caller display free in January by contracting with them for 1 year. This means line rental increase plus 1.75 per month. At present I use 18185 for any calls that I make during the day. Can anyone advise whether I can use 18185 if I switch my line to Sky. Also are calls to 0845 included in the weekend plan.

You, can use 18185 via Sky but it will cost more than from an BT line:

Welcome to 18185.co.uk: UK's Leading Telephone Discounter!

5p connection charge and then an appropriate fee per 1 minute connected.

Unless they are changing it like you say, caller display is free if you make so many calls even if they are the free weekend call inclusive in the cheap plan.

I also use 18185 but all my calls on a weekend get routed through BT.

ONLY BT HAVE TO ALLOW THE USE OF OTHER TELECOM PROVIDERS.

So my guess if you change to Sky you will not be able to use 18185.

      Re: 18185

I have always been under the impression that indirect number dialling could not be used with the SVBN. However in checking the T & Cs I find this -

      5. Indirect Access Calls

5.1 We may restrict your ability to make calls using a prefix number to access a different telephone provider ("Indirect Access Calls") at any time by giving reasonable notice on our website sky.com/skytalk.

5.2 If we allow you to make Indirect Access Calls, these calls may be billed by the service provider you have chosen, and may not appear on your Sky Talk bill. You will have to pay us for any Indirect Access Calls appearing on your Sky Talk bill.
This does not really mean a lot, as the same T & Cs say you must have Sky TV to get Sky Talk, which has not been the case for a long time now. I am sure I have read of users who dialed using an indirect dialling number and were charged the full rate by Sky.

If you are considering moving to Sky for your phone you would be better considering Sky Talk Anytime UK which gives you free calls to 01, 02, 03 numbers, including 0870 and 0845, for 5 pm. Sky Talk International gives you free calls to 50 international destinations in addition for 10 per month. Caller display is free with Sky rental.

You, can use 18185 via Sky using a different different access number.

A 60 minute call would cost approx 65p - going via the BT line would cost 5p.

Thanks for all who have given me advice. At present I pay 5 more for my broadband as my line is with BT so am I correct in thinking that if I switch to Sky Talk Anytime UK the 5 charge would be offset by a 5 reduction in my broadband charge.

Yes I would say that would be the case. Your BB cost would reduce from 12.50 to 7.50 by switching from BT to Sky Talk Line Rental.

I am fairly sure she has Sky TV which gets her a 2.50 discount.
