Moving from bt do I need to tell them I'm going

I am transferring from bt from tomorrow, I normally get a letter from bt confirming they have received a request to switch line rental and broadband, this time I have not, do I have to notify them when I've gone or do sky/bt openworld tell them I've gone.

You shouldn't need to tell the losing provider, in fact it is usually better that you don't. I would wait until the transfer has been successfully completed then call BT to enquire about when you will receive your final bill or whether any refund is due.
