I am not familiar with Sky's policy for Phone & BB, but Virgin stuff you for a whole new 12 month contract when you move, on top of moving charges.

As a side note, there have been a few who have moved from an LLU enabled exchange to a non-Sky LLU enabled exchange who have been able to cancel early.

They did assure me that you are not on a new contract when you move. So, in theory, I should be able to cancel the line rental and broadband after installation if the broadband proves to be as bad as I suspect it's going to be.

I'll be on the same exchange but, as I mentioned, the new house is 2 miles further away and it's only less than 3mb where I am at the moment.

      No problem.

I trust that everything will go smoothly now.

When I spoke to Sky a few months ago about it, I was told that once moved the original contract continues, you don't have to start a new 12 months contract, but I was told that I'd only have to pay the costs Sky incur, paying BTO for the physical connection work, I was not though told how much this was.

How much is the connection fee nowadays?

It used to be 130, but many firms are discounting it now.

I believe that what connection fee you have to pay does sometimes depend on whether or not there was a recent connection fee to a BT style connection from the new property recently. I may well be wrong.

As for the 12 month contract, kudos to Sky for not making you start a new contract. This is often a hidden part with some companies and not something that people tend to consider when changing telephone companies.

Re: They'll leave you paying your house purchaser's phone bill

I was sent an online Customer Feedback form by Sky after my difficulties with the Terminations Team over terminating my phone line at the old house and I gave them the whole sorry story.

A nice lady from the Situations Team has just called me in response and is sorting out the whole thing. She is arranging for my phone to terminate on my leaving date and has cancelled the order for the new Sky Talk line at my new address. Presume I will still pay the 31 days notice but no argument with that.

So I can only conclude that the Terminations Team are deliberatley vague about the termination procedure in order to arm twist you in to transferring your Sky phone line. This applies to the operative who took my call and to his manager who I insisted on speaking to.

I have now booked Virgin Media phone line and broadband. More expensive but really the only option as the new house is so far from the exchange.
