      Phone dials out but fails to connect!

      I dial number but get returned to dial tone. This happens three times in ten and with either a corded or digital phone.
      Anyone know what might cause this?

      Firstly check on your 'MySky' page that all your bills have been paid, just in case something has gone wrong.

      If this is fine, then it sounds like you have a line fault.

      I would call Sky Talk and ask for some assistance.

      Whilst I appreciate that this can't be done using your land line, you can call them on your mobile and ask the person to call you back on the mobile.

      It does say 'give it 20 minutes, and try again. After that normal fault finding should be implemented.

      Thanks folks - its been going on for while now and I also get to hear faint conversation on the line from time to time so I guess a line fault is likely.

      I am getting a similar fault. The fault I get is that I get a ringing sound and the person I am calling picks up but can't hear me. I can hear them at the other end.
      This is intermittent and isn't happening all the time. Just recently person I was calling had a chat with a stranger who ended up on the line.
      What is going on? I have no telephone extensions off the master. I haven't tried with a corded phone but I don't think the handset could be at fault
      Any ideas what I can do?

      As said - crossed line is likely. Openreach will need involved.

      Have contacted Sky and I have had the whole weekend with the the phone faceplate removed and the microfilter plugged directly in the test socket. They will be ringing me back tomorrow to see if the fault has reoccurred. At the time of writing the fault hasn't happened again but I have still noticed that my broadband speed is still down. I usually get just over 2Mb but at the moment I am getting 1.5Mb. They are looking into this also
