      Sky blocking line

Ok, I had a rep from Talk Talk turn up on the doorstep today. I was initally going to send her packing as I'm happy enough with the Sky services but she mentioned something about Sky putting a block on the phone line and that being illegal. Suffice to say my interest was piqued. She claimed that when Sky sets up the phone line they then block it so when a customer decides to move provider they then have to pay a new connection fee. Apparently all it takes is a call to Sky to get it unblocked (which I haven't done yet). I've trawled a bit online about this but come up with nothing. Anyone come across it before?

Total rubbish, what else would you expect from a door to door sales person.

The facts are, if you take your line rental with a company and want to move to another then you will probably have to pay a connection fee. It's the same for all TelCo's whether it be Sky, BT Talk Talk etc etc.

Do you really think that Sky would do something illegal that Talk Talk knew about.... surely of this was the case then TT would have reported them to OfCom.

Sounds like it's TT that are being a little on the edge of legality with their selling tactics based on your posting.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! She should be charged with disseminating misleading information. If you want to leave any LLU service, including TalkTalk, and return to BT you are likely to have to pay BT a reconnection fee. In practise BT are so happy to increase their customer base, they will usually do it for nothing. If she was talking about broadband, then it is the same, ISPs put a 'tag' on the line and it cannot be used by another ISP until the tag is released. This is what a MAC does.

If she was talking about blocking a line so it could not be 'slammed', then I think that is a good thing. Telephone slamming has happened too often in the past and any way to stop it should be applauded.

Cheers for the swift replies. She's been canvassing the area and it sounds like she may have got a couple of the neigbours to switch.

I'd drop OfCom a line about what TT sales people are saying!

Might be worth your while informing Sky's legal department through james.conyers at bskyb.com. They might have a reward for information like this

      Re: Sky blocking line

Like most resellers they will claim that the salesperson was an outsourced agent.

Most sales people will make up any old rubbish to make a sale.

I had an Npower sales person on my door and when I said I wasn't interested she started screaming abuse at me and hammered at the door for several minutes.

She only ran off when the police was called, and Npower denyed all knowledge of that salesperson.

Mind you I now refuse to use Npower at all.
