      Automated sales calls....................

Since porting my phone number from Virgin to Sky, I have been getting automated sales calls from some poxy government debt reducing scheme crap.

They/it call about 5 times a day and is really getting on my t*ts now. Both my wife and I are shift workers and it's beginning to effect our sleep - as a nightshft HGV driver, I'm sure you could appreciate how bloody annoying these phone calls are.

I've tried TPS but they said they couldn't do much. I was wondering if anyone on here could offer some advice. Do you think If I ring Sky's customer services they would be able to help in anyway?

      Many thanks.

I think this is a fake agency. I remember getting one.

When you dial 1471, do they leave a number.

If they don't you can pay sky a small fee to block all "private or non Called ID Numbers". This might block out others like your bank though. Sky might do this for free if their is harrasment on the line. (DOn't know but worth asking).

If you are not X-Directory, call Sky and get that done NOW! This will take a couple of weeks and your number will drop off the 118 xxx services.

Register for TPS - This will take a number of weeks but will reduce any calls that are coming from people using old phone books and software that has your number on them now. - i.e. TPS is no use for those with old databases.

Make sure you tick the "do not sell my information to others or market research". on all forms and when applying on the phone make sure you ask the adviser to tick this box on their computer.

if you want to go as far as getting your number changed, sky can do this, but only if it has been reported to the police and you have a crime referance number.

failing that, sky can stop any marketing calls within the company....if not, nothing much else can be done apart from what was said above

That's a lot to pay for some privacy. I'll stick to my caller ID phone and screening calls myself.

      Re: Automated sales calls....................

Does it tell you how many calls it's rejected? I get probably one marketing call a month, thanks to a combination of TPS and caller ID. I can't see it being helpful for, say, callers wanting something I've put on Freecycle. If I got through to a machine asking me for my name I think I would just put the phone down and forget it.
