Want Caller Display: Have SkyTalk & BT Line Rental.

      Hi,

As the topic title, I have been wanting caller display (so I can see who is phoning before I pick up the phone).

But I am not sure who I need to get it from.

I have my telephone and broadband from Sky in SkyTalk and Sky Broadband max.

But have my line rental with BT.

I get charged each month by BT for using their 1571 service alongside my line rental (1 per month for 1571).

So I am guessing it may be BT that I need to pay for Caller ID with them?

I would rather it was Sky though, any ideas on what I need to do to get it and if it is BT I need to get it from how much it will cost..

Would rather not switch line rental to sky before anyone suggests this.

      Thanks

Re: Want Caller Display: Have SkyTalk & BT Line Rental.

Hi, I recently joined sky and got the lot through them, Sky+ HD, Broadband, Talk and line.
Once the line was switched from Pipex to Sky I had caller ID, I didn't have this with Pipex.
It might come as standard because I didn't ask for it.
I also got 3 months line rental free for changing providers. Bonus!

But if anything happens to my line Sky will say its a BT line and thus you need to contact them for any resolutions/repairs.

BT then say you don't have line rental with us so its 75 plus 30 callout fee.

If you have Line rental with BT the above is free.

How I know this, both I and a relative had TalkTalk line rental and our lines messed up and this is what was billed. (this is a large reason why I now have BT line rental again).

I telephoned Sky tonight and they said I need to go through BT as they can only offer this if I get line rental with them.

From googling it appears BT charge 1.75 for this feature, but one thing I am not certain about, will this be ontop of the 1 I get charged with them for 1571, or will it just be the one bill of 1.75 for both the Caller ID and 1571 as I don't make my minimum 2 calls per month with BT?

I get free caller ID with BT as part of their "privacy at home" package.

It's free caller ID and registration with the Telephone preference service (TPS), I still have it active on my account but I have no idea if they offer it as a option anymore.

It's both. You need to make two calls a month on the BT network to qualify for the free 'privacy at home' offer. The catch is that SkyTalk block access to the 1280 code you need to dial to re-route calls through BT.

If your line rental is with Sky, they will sort out genuine faults free of charge though BT Openreach will probably do the work. You only pay a callout fee if the problem turns out to be something not under their control, i.e. inside your house AFTER the master socket.

If you really want caller ID then your choices are either to cancel SkyTalk or switch your line rental. If you do transfer to Sky, then dependent on which exchange you are on, you may have to pay a connection charge if you wanted to switch back to BT later.

Re: Want Caller Display: Have SkyTalk & BT Line Rental.

I have Caller display with SkyTalk Unlimited and BT Rental. Unfortunately it is not free, through not being able to make the required 2 calls month through BT. It cost about 7.70 a Quarter.

If I were to move my calls to BT to get it free I would loose the 15 a quarter I save on broadband. If Sky ever drop this discount I will be straight back to BT.

      not true -

if you pay your line rental to BT and have Sky Talk then your incoming calls are delivered by BT and they provide the Caller ID. Sky deliver your outgoing calls.

If you pay your line rental to Sky then they are responsible for both incoming and outgoing calls and would be responsible to supply CallerID.

It is, all Mr Spouse missed was the 'free' in front of caller ID.

Rental with BT calls with Sky, you pay BT for caller ID
Rental and calls with BT you qualify for free caller ID.
Rental and Calls with Sky you get free caller ID.
