      New Sky Talk services??

I just got a letter saying due to new line changes in my area, new Sky Talk services would soon be available to me. The letter explains that my line will be down for a short period in 2 weeks time for about 20-30 mins.

The new service listed was online access to voicemail messages like Iphone visual voicemail? It then goes vague suggesting more innovative services coming soon?

Does anyone know more about this, what changes are being made (is it my line, my exchange or something else). What else will i see improve with my line inc broadband?

My exchange is Hengoed near Caerphilly. I am on Sky Talk Unlimited + Sky Broadband Unlimited + Sky HD.

      thanks

If it's telephony services then it will just be telephony services, your ADSL will not change as that is on different equipment.
Sounds like new telephone services have been developed and are being pushed out to try and give a little extra to customers, a bit like O2 bluebook where you can turn on a service to save a copy of all your text messages in case your phone goes wrong or you run out of space to save them lol

What it actually means is that Sky are going to move you from your very reliable BT line across to their own troubled SVBN network, I assume you have line rental with them.

Many users have had problems when this has been done and Sky did have an opt out, personally, I would not touch it with a barge pole.

Also, once on it, it can be difficult and costly to get off it again if you decide to move to another ISP etc and you may be forced to cancel and get reprovisioned which could mean 20+ days downtime.

So if its so bad, how can i opt out, refuse or prevent this as its 2 weeks away. Also, what are the plus points as must be something now or soon that means it could be a good thing?

      Any suggestions welcome

Sky will make more money as they do not have to pay BT rental for the network service

I don't think you can opt out, the date for doing that is well past

Errm, online access to voicemail? (Something BT have had for ages on their 1571 service - very handy when away from home, saves dialling up to see if anyone has left a message)

Other good points? Nope, can't think of one...
