New sky talk install, phone line problem

      Hello

I have recently moved into a new flat and have got sky+HD with sky talk and sky BB. Our tv as been installed without a problem, because there was already a phone line at the property sky said they did not need to send an engineer out as they re-activate the phone line remotely.

They was meant to do this on Tuesday, since then we have been checking periodically to see if it is working, still not working today, so phoned sky and they said the phone line is now active and should work. There only solution us to send out an engineer at the cost of 150.

Is it down to me to sort out getting the phone line working? I.e. Pay the 150 or should sky sort it out? There is no dialing tone and when you phone the number it just rings but you hear nothing in the flat. Also when you connect a fax machine to the line it says 'phone off hook'.

      Any help/advice apprieciated.

      Thanks

Connect a phone directly to the test socket (see my sig for details) if it still doen't work from there then it is a fault at Sky/BT's end and not your problem so you shouldn't pay.

If the line has never worked, Sky are in breach of contract. Sue them through the Small Claims Court if they try to charge you for the BT Open reach engineer's visit.

Re: New sky talk install, phone line problem

Sorry but the line was probably put in by the contractors that installed the lines to the flats. Sounds like the installation was duff and the bt engineers are getting a response back from their equipment and the fault is further along. If the fault is found to be before your telephone socket they cannot blame you or charge you.
