In theory, you should see no difference. Thousands have already been put on it and there are very few problems.

Yes Theory I understand, but it is fact I am looking for.

But in this day & age simple Telecommunications should be 100%.
But what I am reading about Sky Talk I do not think they have not. got there yet.

Would like a comment from someone who has it & finds it GOOD

Re: Sky Talk Network is it any Good

I have been on Sky Talk's Unlimited package since June, 2009 but still pay my line rental to BT. Switchover was trouble free and most things remain as they were. No need to dial STD codes for local calls. International calls to 20 destinations are now free. My wife used to call her sister in Australia once or twice a month now it's nearly every day with the free calls. 0870 calls are free 0845 are not but calls to Sky's 0844 numbers are also free so at least while you are on hold waiting to speak to someone you are not burning off money. Because the network is on WCLI (Wholesale calls, line independent) from BT the BT override code 1280 does NOT work (disabled by BT Wholesale) and as a result I am unable to route any calls through BT's network to obtain free CLID. BT charge me 2.50 per month for the privilege and would not budge from that when I queried it. I suspect it's a bit of a marketing ploy to prevent people leaving.
I have not noticed any drop in call clarity and everything still works as well as it did before.
You don't say whether or not you pay your line rental to Sky or BT so I hope some of this info will be of help.

Re: Sky Talk Network is it any Good

Wuggy, you are on a Sky talkplan, not on the Sky equipment so this is not the details they require.

To the OP, if there really was a problem with the Sky SVBN network then the forum would be full of people complaining. From the posts I have read, it seems that once the SVBN setup is up and running then it tends to be as good and stable as the standard BT network.

Any problems I have read about seem to be more to do with the initial change over and problems that can arise when doing this type of work. Obviously the line from the exchange to your premesis is the same so that shouldn't cause any more problems than when it was BT.

Personally, I keep my line rental seperate from my ISP, I do this to give me control should a problem arise with the line as I don't want to go jumping through hoops whislt the ISP checks pointless things before they decide that they need to instruct BT to call and repair.

Remember, this is a User Forum that tends to deal with peopls problems, it is not often that people will log in just to confirm that everything is working as it should so I wouldn't be too surprised that you don't have too many people on here recommending it

Nothing is 100%, when you consider the route that the calls have to take and the distance and equipment they all have to go through, then add to this the ageing cable and the stupid things like JCB's digging up main trunck cables, to be honest it is surprising that we get any calls at all

Re: Sky Talk Network is it any Good

There are FOUR threads on the front page of the forum with issues with Skys SVBN network.

I have pointed everyone to this thread (as it's the longest).

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-t...telephone.html

      Dead lines
Activate calls going dead at one end
      Straight to voicemail
      Intermittent caller ID
      Incoming going to voicemail

      Should I go on...

Re: Sky Talk Network is it any Good

I've had no problems with SVBN. Oddly enough, the clarity (noise) on the line seems to have evaporated, and I get crisp, clear calls.

I've read that other people seem to have problems with it, I wonder if it's capacity issues? i.e. if there are lots of people on the service at an exchange does it become worse?

Re: Sky Talk Network is it any Good

My voice quality problems are alway on incoming calls, never on outgoing ones so I believe it's a question of interface and codec issues, not capacity.

Speaking as one who has been on the Sky network for about 15 months, I've never had a problem! The service is every bit as good as BT.
As already said, the problems seem to stem from installations and departures!
