      Sky Talk Installation Troubles

Thought I'd share my disappointment at the provided service.

Yesterday I was supposed to be getting a new phone line installed for Sky Talk.

The BT Openreach engineer came towards the end of the working day (without phoning in advance, as promised in the letter) and proceeded to spend an hour doing what appeared to be nothing (in my hallway and then in my street) and then said that the job was too big for him to do on his own, so he had to call in backup.

He then disappeared for over an hour, and when he arrived back, he said he was sad to inform us that no one was available and that he would have to come back tomorrow (hopefully first thing in the morning, he added). What he was doing for the hour he disappeared is anyone's guess; I just hope he wasn't getting paid for it.

And lo and behold, I waited in all day again today, with no sign from him or any of his fellow engineers, not a phone call from Sky or BT and another day off work wasted.

I moved to Sky because I thought Virgin Media's service was terrible, but things are not looking up after the switch so far.

You can hardly blame Sky for BT's problems. How was the phone line going to enter your property?

Do the phone lines come from a pole in your street. Does the pole have a lot of wires.

BT engineers need special platforms to access some poles now or a second person.

Advice given is in good faith and if taken is done so at your own risk. If in doubt consult a qualified person.

The same applies to some underground chambers (it's elf 'n' safety, innit?)
