      OTOH, BTO can impress sometimes:

My line went faulty Thursday 29-7-09.

BTO engineer came 11am Friday 30-7-09 and electronically identified the fault (a dead short) as being 156 metres from my house - which turned out to be down a manhole to which he could not get access (although he could see from the surface where the - flooding - problem was) because H&S requires 2 trained personnel to be present and he was on his own. He tried various ways of re-routing my line to get me back on service but, at 7pm (he'd been called away to deal with 2 other faults in the meantime), came back and told me he would have to give up for the day.

Next day (Saturday 31-7-09), another BTO engineer arrived and, by access a nearer, larger, underground chamber, managed to get me back on service (I'm assuming he found a spare pair to route my line around the water-filled manhole).

Same day, a neighbour reported her line was also down (obviously the same flooded manhole responsible). I reported it for her via my now working line and, amazingly, a BTO engineer arrived the next day (Sunday 1-8-09).

And now another neighbour has noticed her line is down too!

I am considering just doing it myself if it is easy as it sounds but I am paying Sky for the services on it, not BT and I stated when I first ordered I had no socket and they said it would be sorted.
I think that chinese whispers are going on and somebody at BT's end is deciding not to come out and not passing the message down the line.

@Heinz, but in fairness when BTO came out did they swap your pair with your neighbours one so that she then had to complain about the flooded manhole as you had taken up her working one?

I think you will be better off signing up with BT at least then it will be one organisation that you have to deal with to get the house re-done.

When I signed up with BT we were in the same boat with the previous owners having ripped out all the old wiring and BT came out and not only did the rewiring but also rewired back to the pole with new cable.

If you explain to BT what is going on I hope they will be better.
