      Sky Phone Line - only 1995.95!!!

      Moved to a new flat and called Sky to get phoneline, broadband and Sky HD installed which we were told would all be fine based on our postcode and paid the 25 offer price for a new phone line installation.

      We had had the Sky HD for around 2 weeks now but yesterday got a call from Sky to say an additional charge of 1995.95 needed to be paid for the phone line (from what I could find out Sky contract this out to BT Openreach and this is the charge they are making for the phone line).

      Has anyone else had this?

      We live in the centre of Bristol so are not a remote location. If we cancel the Sky now should we still have to pay the 120 charge for getting it removed (standard full installation charge on the website)?.

      It seems we are now stuck with half the services we paid for and have a choice of paying 120 to get it removed or 2000 to get it installed!

      not really because we need the phone primarily for the sky broadband

      Well as your inside your 30 days and it is them who cannot supply as contracted then I cannot see any reason why you should be out of pocket.

      Have a look for the Customer relations phone number on here, they usually deal with these type of problems better than the standard call centre.

      Contact BT direct and ask for a new line.

      Ask to speak to the "Customer Options" team who waive the 122.50 new line fee if you sign for 18 months.

      Then take Sky Talk WITHOUT line rental and Sky Broadband.

      The huge charge will be Excess Construction Charges levied by Openreach to Sky, who have decided to pass them onto you.

      There will be a lack of plant to your property (either no feed at all or the existing is full). This will have then been to the Openreach planning dept who would have surveyed.

      If it is a 1st line to the property, it will be a "USO" order (universal service obligation). If it is a 2nd or subsequent line to your property, it will be NON-USO.

      Openreach foot the 1st 3400 of construction charges on a USO order, or 1000 on NON-USO. Anything over this is quoted to the service provider, who can soak up or pass on (sometimes adding or minusing some for themselves).

      If this is the case, it doesn't matter who you order from, if it comes via an Openreach line, the charges will apply.

      If this is a 1st line to your property, then ring sky and ask them to contact the Openreach Service Management Centre, who will contact the Planner who raised charges for a breakdown - check what he/she has quoted for (e.g, duct, poles etc).

      On a 1st line, network beyond the main DP can only be charged as per OFCOM. On a 2nd line (non-uso), all network can be charged (before and after the main DP).
