      remotely accessing my _phone_'s voicemail

      First of all, some background:
      * I'm away traveling at present
      * My home phone has a built-in message recorder
      * I have never asked for, nor pay for Sky's 1571 voicemail

Now, to access my home phone's messages I call my home number, wait for 12 rings, then when it answers enter my PIN. The problem is that after 7 rings the call gets interrupted and I get a voice saying "welcome to the messaging service". This never used to happen with BT.
It looks like Sky have decided to "give" me the home-based 1571 service for free. However all this does is *prevent* me from accessing my preferred service - thus actually hindering me rather than helping
Does anyone know how I can stop this unwanted voicemail service from interrupting me? I'm prepared to anything that doesn't involve shooting myself, or phoning Sky's "helpdesk"

You could try filling in the KANA form on the Sky website but I think the only way is to ring them.

Re: remotely accessing my _phone_'s voicemail

I'm absolutely not going to phone them. I did that a few months ago when the phone line went dead (exchange fault). It took 2 days and over 12 of calls from my mobile to get through to someone who wasn't a drone in a far-away country - never again.
I'll wait until I get back, then cancel the phone package and go to a better supplier. They're just too hard to deal with.

They are two voicemail services from sky,Standard (free) voicemail and then voicemail+ (2.50) which is the one where you can record your messages and access your message from other phone. Info at this web link. Sky.com - Sky Help Centre>Product Help

Re: remotely accessing my _phone_'s voicemail

Yes Macbeth, I've seen that page. Unfortunately it's wrong.
They say that the 1571 (plain voicemail) is an Handy Optional Extra and that "The optional extras are available for a little extra. They will simply be added to your Sky billl". In this case, it turns out that Sky have put the plain voicemail on my account for free - even though I don't ever recall asking for it. What it does is to intercept incoming calls after 7 rings and divert the caller to Sky's "messaging service". Now, since my home phone's message store is full I have to have it "see" 12 rings before it''ll pick up automatically for me to enter my PIN to manage the calls it has received.
Sky's service is sabotaging this, by diverting the incoming call after 7 rings and I can't get rid of it. That's the problem

Actually it's not a problem at all. It's just that it's easier to change supplier than it is to get Sky's helpdesk to do anything.

Re: remotely accessing my _phone_'s voicemail

If you choose to move to BT for line rental you can access the stored 1571 messages on the Web from their website.

      Regards,

      Felix
