      Vonage to Sky

I am thinking of changing my phone service from Vonage to Sky. Currently
my phone provider is Vonage and the service is availbe via my broadband.

How do I go about changing to Sky? What do I need to do? Since Vonage
is a VOIP and have no physical line. When I spoke to the Sky customer
support they never heard of Vonage. They told me all they need is the
phone number and they can sort out the rest? How exactly will they be
able to sort the porting of the number to Sky line?

Can anyone please shed some light on this?

      Re: Vonage to Sky

You must have a physical line if you have Sky broadband, and be paying line rental to either Sky or BT.
OK I see you don't have Sky TV or broadband.
If BT install a line then you will have the opportunity to move over to Sky talk. I doubt that your Vonage number would be compatable with BTs numbering scheme.

Let me explaine how I intend to do this...

Currently my phone service is provided by Vonage via my Virgin Broadband line.
Sky told me they can install BT line. They have given me a date for the line installation.
Then they will be able to port the existing number from Vonage to Sky line (BT line).
But my confusion is, How will they do that? Since Sky's customer service
never heard of Vonage. They didnt even ask me to give any account details
of Vonage. I was told that the number I have given Sky will be ported.

Beware of salesperson with forked tongue! Some UK phone numbers can be ported to a new provider but Vonage as a true Voip provider does not have to play ball if they don't want to. If this number is important to you I would cancel your sky install unless/until you have it in writing from Sky that they can and will port your Vonage number. I may be doing Sky a disservice but this wouldn't be the first time a Sky salesperson has gone out on a limb to get a sale by making a promise that cannot be kept and I am sure it won't be the last.

It may be worthwhile you asking Vonage whether they will release the number to Sky for you.
