      Harrassing phone calls

I keep getting calls from a company saying I've won a holiday, I just had one today that said 'press 1 to speak to somebody'. This was around the 10th call in 5 days so I pressed 1 and told them to remove my phone number from their database. He then said 'ohh your getting abusive, do you know your paying a premium rate for a call to Delhi?'.

Does anybody know if by pressing 1 to an incoming call if they can then charge you for the call?

Yes they can, and yes they did. They now also know that the line is live and will sell that info on.

You can register with the Telephone Preference Service, but that doesn't really help with callers from overseas.

      Regards,

      Felix

Hopefully it's not too much. A big bill at the moment would not be good. I knew it was stupid to do it but ranting at the idiot on the other end felt good.

Yes, I know just how you feel. However, be prepared for something that might be as much as 1 per minute (or even more . . .)

You can say a lot of four-letter words in a minute.

1 per minute I can live with. I said plenty and I'm pretty sure he was deaf by the time I hung up on him )))

      Thanks for your help

Not 016079999999 by any chance? I just ignore that one. The std code is no more real than the 9999999 phone number. There's a bit about it on Google!

Pity BT can't do something about it.

      No, they cannot.

Only accepting a reverse charge call can result in you being charged. This clearly was not.
