Price of calls to Canary Islands
Just joining Sky Talk Unlimited.
Sky's printed tariff guide says that calls to Spain include the Canary and Balearic Islands (and therefore free).
Sky's online tariff guide says that calls to Spain include only the Balearic Islands (and therefore not free).
Sky's helpline (first call) told me that Spain only covers mainline Spain.
Sky's helpline (second call) told me that the Canary Island are included.
Is there any reliable way of checking? I understand that recent calls do not register realtime on the system.

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
Is the Sky Talk helpline an 0870 number, like all Sky's others?

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
Did you ever get a response to this? I tried asking the same question today and they didn't know the answer. They tried to re-direct me to another dept. but I ended up in the same place. Clueless.

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
On the Telefonica phone system in Spain the cost of any number starting with a 9 (0034 9 from the UK) is treated as a standard call so calls to the Islands are at the same rate. On that basis I can't see why Sky should treat them any different. For example calls to Tenerife are 922 numbers (0034 922) and count as mainland calls in Spain. This even applies to calls on Spanish registered Mobile phones and calling to/from the Islands is treated as a standard Spanish call.

Look at the link. Under the Country listings note Spain has ** as a suffix. Look at the tiny text after the Countries and you will see ** is including Canary and Balearic Islands.

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
Thanks for the replies. I will be ringing relatives there this week so I will be able to give a definitive answer then. From the replies given I should be okay so need to speak three times as quickly and cut the replies short.

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
Well folks, 2 weeks after I sent my email to Sky Talk enquiries they have finally responded. The Canaries are not included in the package and so I am going to get heavily stung for the phone calls made during this period. I have included below the reply I received from Sky.
The call charges for Canary Island are shown below:
Landline calls made during daytime will be charged at 20.90 pence per minute.
Landline calls made during evening and weekends will be charged at 9.50 pence per minute.
Mobile calls made during daytime will be charged at 44.65 pence per minute.
Mobile calls made during evening and weekends will be charged at 33.25 pence per minute.
A 7 pence connection fee applies to all international calls, excluding unlimited calls to free 20 international destinations which is free under Sky Talk Unlimited package.
I have raised a complaint with Sky, will that get me anywhere?, as the responses to this thread would back up the argument that every indication is that the Canaries are included. If they are not going to include them then they should clarify that on their website.
Incidentally, just to clarify, I am on the unlimited phone package and I did phone Sky first of all but they were unable to answer the question at the call centre.
Dreadful customer service

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
That is shocking! The Canaries are clearly shown as one of the free destinations on page 6 of the Sky Tarrif PDF. It is amazing that calls to Australia including the Christmas and Cocos Is., are free or is that also a lie.

Re: Price of calls to Canary Islands
18185 treat the Canary Islands as Spain.
Are you on Sky line rental too or do you just use them as your CPS calls provider you have a 18185 account?
In either case, can you dial the 18185 prefix?
If you can't, you should be able to use 18185's freephone gateway number (08081703703).
Costs (either way) - 4p connection + 1p per minute.Want to save on your phone costs? Click HERE then.
