Tied in to Sky Talk ?

i've not long got sky talk, i was connected on the 1st August.

i've a mate who stay's in new zealand & i phoned him, i was on the phone for 1hr 43mins, sky charged my 30.39 = 18 per hour i phoned up and queried the amount, the guy said it was wrong and then worked it out to be 22.xx, he then credited my account with 10

i've checked an old talktalk bill (25.6.07) and i called my mate for 1hr 18mins and was charged 3.35 ex.vat

now thats bl**dy highway robbery by sky

the guy i phoned has put me on to the 5 month deal for international calls

but i was wondering am i tied it to Sky talk for any length of time?

just think, i was going to phone my mate that morning, before i opened that bill, that would have been another 30

Even on the 5/month Skly Talk Unlimited package, you'll have to remember to hang up and redial after 59 minutes - otherwise silly charges start.

Personally, I'd use 18185 anyway - that 1 hour 43 minute call would've cost me 1.08 (without any need to hang up).

Re: Tied in to Sky Talk ?

i've just checked the T&C and i can cancel, just need to give then 30 days notice

      8. Ending this contract

8.1 If your Sky Talk service ends for any reason under Condition 7, this contract shall end automatically at the same time.

8.2 You may end this contract by giving 7 days written notice if we have broken any of the Conditions.

8.3 Otherwise, you or we may end this contract at any time by giving the other 30 days notice.

8.4 When this contract ends, you will need to make arrangements to switch to an alternative telephone service provider if you want to continue receiving a full telephone service. There is no obligation to wait until the end of any notice period to switch to another telephone service provider. During any notice period Sky Talk will continue to be available unless your service has been restricted or ends under Condition 7. However, we may restrict your ability to make premium rate and/or international rate calls using Sky Talk during any notice period.

8.5 If this contract ends before you have switched to a new telephone service provider, you may still be able to make calls to Sky through Sky Talk which you will have to pay for. You may also be able to make other calls through your line rental provider.
looks like i'll be leaving sky talk

Nothing to stop you using voice over internet though. I use voipcheap.com and it costs nothing to call landlines in New Zealand. You do have to pay out about 10 every three months but that can be used to economically call 0845 etc number, mobiles, etc

Next time you ring him, use this access number: 0844 462 95 95, then you'll be charged 2pence p/m (1.20 per hour)

Telediscount: low cost international calls - from any UK-Phone

Or any one of the dozen or so cheaper alternatives Martin Lewis's site lists (see HERE).
