      Is SkyTalk operational?

It's pretty seamless normally - so it may already be up and running.

Assuming you were sensible enough to leave your line rental with BT and just opted to use Sky Talk as your CPS provider, the easiest way to check whether Sky Talk is operational on your line is to activate BT's Charge Advice on your line and then make a call:

Lift handset and dial *411# and listen for message. Replace handset.

Make a call to any UK 01/02 number. You can do so at any time but, made in the evening or at the weekend, it'll only cost 4p if you're still on BT. If the exchange automatically calls you back immediately after the call with the approx cost of the call, you're still on BT. If there's no immediate call back, the call went (free) over Sky Talk.

You can switch off BT Charge Advice with #411#

There is no need to use the 1280 prefix when switching Charge Advice on or off (even after Sky Talk has gone live).

Don't forget you'll need to make at least 2 chargeable calls each month via BT (i.e. with the 1280 prefix) to keep 'nearly free' Caller Display and, if you must use it, 1571.

On behalf of your friends and family though, I urge you not to use 1571.
