      BT charging for 1471 ???

My recent BT bill (my 2nd) shows 3 months line rental, 6 * 1471 calls + 1 * 1471 call with ringback. 1471 calls are priced at 6.3p and same with ringback at 12.7p. The sky website implies that this service is free so what is going on? Has BT changed it's policy & sky hasn't caught up with it yet or is this a hiccup? Anyone else in the same boat? Should I complain - to BT or sky?

Re: BT charging for 1471 ???

yes we have been charged too. to be honest im thinking of just dropping my phoneline as i dont use ADSL. im also sick of BT charging me 5 for a DD payment, which costs them nothing.

apparently they dont charge if your on BT only on CPS - and to be honest with BT's anytime package now only 7.95 it's still cheaper to maybe ditch sky and just use BT

if sky dont like it i ll switch my TV to cable aswell.

      Can you explain that?

I pay BT by DD and get (what amounts to) a 4.50 discount.

Are you saying you have you have to pay 5 more for paying by DD (i.e. 9.50 more than I do)?

If you do a 1471 and then press 3 when the nice BT lady invites you to use their simple service to ring the caller back, BT charges 6.3p + VAT (7p to you and me). Could that be it?

i dont think so i am getting charged simply for dailling 1471 - as i usually write the number down then ring it on my mobile.

i mean i am being charged a 5 payment processing fee - and i pay by DD

BT's so-called 'Processing Fee' is 4.50 per quarter, not 5 and certainly shouldn't apply if you have set up a Direct Debit Mandate for your bills.

My rant about 1571 is HERE.

Re: BT charging for 1471 ???

As far as I know we haven't been charged for just dialing 1471, we never use the option to press 3 but I'll look into this tomorrow so thanks for the heads up on this.

Re the proccessing fee, we have no switched to direct debit to avoide that and we also get a 50p (wow !) discount on our line rental.

I think I read somewhere that an investigation was underway to see if what BT are doing regarding this 4.50 fee is legit and above board.

Re: BT charging for 1471 ???

When we signed up for both paperless and Direct Debit we got a letter thanking us and refunding the 4.50 which they had taken from our last bill as a gesture of good will.
