Sky Sports awarded La Liga for another three seasons

      https://corporate.sky.com/media-cent...-three-seasons

Sky Sports will remain the home of La Liga for another three seasons thanks to a new broadcast agreement announced today.

The deal strengthens Sky’s position as the first choice for sport across the UK and Ireland and ensures La Liga remains a key part of an unrivalled schedule of live football.

Sky Sports viewers will be able to follow Real Madrid, Barcelona and the stars of Spanish football as part of a schedule of over 100 live La Liga matches a season, including the mouth-watering ‘El Classico’ fixtures. The deal also includes the Final of the Copa del Rey, won last season by Barcelona.

The agreement extends the partnership between Sky Sports and La Liga into its 20th year and helps ensure viewers can enjoy an unrivalled choice of sport across seven dedicated sports channels and Sky’s award winning digital services.

Sky Sports is set to get even stronger for customers following 36 new rights agreements in the last 18 months. From 2016, Sky Sports will be bringing customers even more Premier League football plus The Open golf from 2017, as well as international and domestic cricket from the ECB and a new five-year partnership with the RFU. Sky Sports' unrivalled football schedule includes 116 matches from the Premier League, 127 matches from the Football League, Capital One Cup, UEFA Euro 2016 and FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers, SPFL and Scottish Cup, America's MLS and Eredivisie.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: “This is fantastic news for Sky Sports and strengthens our position as the first choice of sport in the UK and Ireland. The agreement means our viewers can enjoy the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Bale and Neymar week in week out throughout the football season. Add to that the ‘El Clasico’ clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona in the league and Sky Sports viewers are sure to see some of the best football moments throughout the season. We’re proud to take our partnership with La Liga into its 20th year and remain the home of Spanish football for another three years.”

Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, added: "Sky Sports is the leading sports broadcaster for the UK and Ireland and we are delighted to continue our partnership with them for another three years. La Liga has a huge global fan base and by renewing with Sky Sports, the agreement provides us with the best possible way to showcase our league, our teams and our players to our UK and Irish audience."

La Liga will be available to Sky Sports subscribers wherever they are on mobile, laptop and selected tablets via Sky Go. Non-subscribers can also see matches without a contract through online streaming service NOW TV. By purchasing a Sky Sports Day Pass for £6.99 or Sky Sports Week Pass for £10.99, fans can enjoy access to all seven Sky Sports channels and watch on a TV with a NOW TV Box or on a range of devices.

Its a pity they did not face down the PL in the same way.

Awful newspaper reporting over the weekend on this one. Very good tactics by Sky if any of the rumours of them walking away were close.

Looks like Sky's brinkmanship paid off.

PR victory for Sky. Simply renewing the La Liga deal would have been a non-event. Now it looks as if they took on both La Liga and BT and earned a magnificent result which generates lots of interest, headlines and column inches. They may even have paid less (for more coverage) and at times that suit the UK.

Re: Sky Sports awarded La Liga for another three seasons

Can anyone tell me if Sky Sports will be showing La Liga matches on Sky Sports 1-5 this season? Will they be shown exclusively on skygo because I can't get that. The tv listings are not on the football section of the website. Also it says they will be showing the Spanish Super cup at 9pm on the 14th August and they are only showing highlights at about 3am on the 15th. I have tried emailing sky customer services with this and it's been a week and they still haven't got back to me. Thank you

Re: Sky Sports awarded La Liga for another three seasons

I would expect them to air the matches on the standard Sky Sports channels or via the Red Button service which they occasionally use.

Of course any matches aired on SS5 will only be available via the Sky TV platform. This will also include Sky Go and I believe NowTV.
