ITV gets Cricket World Cup highlights with England and final on ITV1

• Ofcom document reveals broadcaster has picked up rights
• Lesser matches to be shown on ITV4; event live on Sky Sports

ITV will show highlights of the Cricket World Cup, which begins next month. A consultation document from the regulator Ofcom has disclosed that ITV has won the rights to the terrestrial highlights.

The Ofcom document says all of England’s games, including the match against Scotland, will be shown on ITV1 but highlights of the other matches, including the semi-final and final, will be on the less accessible sister channel ITV4. It is understood ITV executives have decided the semi-final and final highlights will be shown on ITV1 given the high-profile nature of the matches.

Live coverage of the tournament, which will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand, will be broadcast on Sky Sports. The Ofcom document says Sky Sports 2 will be rebranded as Sky Sports World Cup for the tournament’s duration between 14 February and 29 March.

The ITV highlights will be shown at 10pm each night and last between 60 and 90 minutes.

I never thought I would see that day that cricket would be on ITV 1 even if it is at the stupid time of 10pm in the evening because by then the next days games will be taking place, good old ITV.

It did kind of strike me as odd when I saw the headlines too.

It'll please some people that ITV4 will show some live matches, even if they are the 'lesser' ones.
